About the Gin

Construction of the gin was completed in May 2024, with commissioning following shortly after. The gin is a completely new build, equipped with the latest machinery and technology to ensure it runs at optimal efficiency. We are proud to operate with state-of-the-art 'Lummus' equipment, which is designed to enhance both performance and reliability.

Last season, we processed a total of 56,000 bales across both the Northern Territory and Western Australia, from the 2023 and 2024 seasons. As this was our first season operating the gin, we are extremely pleased with the results. One of the standout achievements was the classing results, with most bales returning a grade of two or three leaf, exactly what we aimed for. This demonstrates that the gin is operating as intended, and the cotton is meeting the quality standards we set out to achieve.

In terms of production, we averaged 400 bales per shift, with a few shifts reaching 500 bales. After some fine-tuning, we achieved a new record of 526 bales in a 12-hour shift.

Vision

At Northern Cotton, our vision is to stimulate and grow the cotton industry in Northern Australia, establishing the region as a key player in the global cotton market. We aim to be a driving force in creating a reliable, efficient service that supports local growers while promoting the Northern Territory’s unique advantage as a hub for international trade.

We believe that cotton from Northern Australia has the potential to become a world-renowned product, prized for its superior quality. Through our state-of-the-art facilities and commitment to excellence, we want to make it easier for more growers to produce cotton, ensuring a robust and sustainable market for merchants to buy from.

We are committed to working closely with local cattle producers to help them realise the full potential of white cottonseed as a valuable fodder option. By promoting its nutritional benefits, we aim to enhance their production models and provide a sustainable, locally sourced alternative to traditional feed.

At Northern Cotton, we’re passionate about growing the future of cotton in Northern Australia, building a legacy of quality, sustainability, and local prosperity.

Gin Operators

LDC will be operating the Gin this season, 2025, and we couldn’t be happier. After their excellent accomplishments last year, we're confident they will continue to manage the operation with the same expertise.

Once a decision is made regarding who will operate the gin in future seasons, we will inform everyone accordingly. In the meantime, your dedicated grower services representative, Kate, will be here for the long term, available to assist with any questions or concerns you may have.
