About the Gin

Construction of the Northern Cotton gin was completed in May 2024, with commissioning shortly thereafter. Purpose-built for northern Australian conditions, the facility is a modern, fully integrated operation designed to support long-term industry growth across the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

The site includes substantial seed shed capacity, a well-planned module yard and receival area, efficient heavy vehicle access, and on-site camp accommodation for operational staff.

The layout has been designed to ensure safe workflow, reliable logistics and scalability as regional production continues to expand.

Northern Cotton operates state-of-the-art equipment supplied by Lummus, incorporating advanced cleaning, drying and ginning technology to protect fibre quality while maintaining operational efficiency. Modern automation and monitoring systems allow the plant to be continually optimised to suit seasonal conditions.

Looking ahead, Northern Cotton is progressing plans for a staged grain handling and storage complex at the site to support growers introducing rotation crops such as sorghum.

The initial stage will include cone-bottom silos with integrated fumigation and aeration, along with infrastructure to facilitate efficient container packing for export.

A second stage will expand storage capacity to accommodate increased grain volumes as the region develops.

Subject to final approval, construction of the grain complex is targeted for completion in the third quarter of 2026.
