INSIGHTS & PERSPECTIVES

Season Wrap-Up: Our First Cotton Ginning Season

Well, what a season it's been! Our first-ever cotton ginning season is officially in the books, and we're here to share how things went.

Gin Manager Reflection – Alex Detmers

Looking back, the season got off to a slow start with the 2023 crop that was in the yard over the wet season. Once we had completed the 2023 cotton and finished commissioning the gin, we started on the 2024 crop. From there, we ramped up production, quickly reaching good production numbers of averaging 400 bales a shift, with at gin hitting a few 500 bale shifts. With some fine-tuning, the gin set a new record of 526 bales for a 12hr shift. We are looking forward to the 2025 season and what the northern cotton gin can achieve

The Numbers

Overall, we processed a total of 56,000 bales across both Northern Territory and Western Australia. Given that this is our first season with the gin, we are extremely pleased with how everything went. We're pleased to announce that the bale shed is now empty, and we’ve transitioned into maintenance mode.

Classing Results

The classing results were also a highlight. Most of the bales came back with a grade of two or three leaf, which is exactly what we hoped for. This shows that the gin is operating as it should, and the cotton is meeting the quality standards we set out to achieve.

Looking Ahead

We're really proud of how smoothly the season went in the Gin, especially given that everything is brand new. There's always room for improvement, and we’ll be reviewing everything carefully to ensure that next season runs even better. But for now, we’re wrapping up on a high note. A huge thanks to everyone involved in making this first season a success, we couldn’t have done it without you all.
